Effective December 3, 2018, Los Angeles Superior Court (LASC) will mandate the electronic filing of unlawful detainer and other legal documents to the court (e-filing). LASC has already begun limited – voluntary e-filing in several civil case types, including unlawful detainers, on November 13, 2018. There will now be an additional e-filing charge associated with each case filed in Los Angeles County.
As the name implies, e-filing allows parties to transmit documents directly to a court electronically. The system is being utilized by an increasing number of courts seeking to create a faster, paperless system. Kimball, Tirey & St. John LLP is hopeful that cases filed via e-file in Los Angeles County will help to reduce the timeline for the eviction process. However, with other counties who have implemented e-filing, there were instances of increased delays.
If you have any questions about Kimball, Tirey & St. John LLP utilizing e-filing for your cases, please contact our Los Angeles office at 800-577-4587.
