North County Court Closes for Unlawful Detainer Matters

August, 2017

Effective September 1, 2017, all Unlawful Detainer actions in the County of San Diego will be filed in the San Diego Superior Court located in downtown San Diego. This will include all Unlawful Detainer filings and appearances, including trials that were previously heard in the North County Judicial District. This Court is located in Vista, California, and would have previously served such communities as Oceanside, Carlsbad, Cardiff, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Escondido, Fallbrook, San Marcos, Vista, Pala and Valley Center.

Due to the great influx of additional cases, this will impact the time it takes to process all Unlawful Detainer actions filed in the county. At this time the court projects a delay in processing default judgments to be 30 days or longer.  Approximately 34% of the Unlawful Detainer cases filed in San Diego County are contested and require a Court Appearance.
